If you’re relatively new to vgc I feel like I should explain meme picks vs niche picks. Really it's all about just figuring out the things that can beat you and then filling your team with pokemon that can beat those things, honestly the best way I like to do this is through trial and error, I'll think of a gimmick or strat I want to exploit then fill in the team with mon I think could work then it's constant testing and just trial and error to figure out what actually works. You can also look at where the pokemon you want to set up has weak stats, like passimian has a really bad speed tier, 80 isn't fast enough to outspeed anything naturally but it's too fast for trick room so you definitely need speed control on your team, probably tailwind. So the next step I would take if I were you would be to like at which meta threats is passimian really bad against? Well, Passimian is weak to flying, fairy and psychic, the most common fairy right now is tapu fini so you're definitely going to want a dedicated fini counter on your team. The next step is to think "what could the other team have that will disrupt this strategy" and then fill your team with mon that counter that. But honestly it seems like you're on the right track, you've identified that unique/abusable thing that passimian can do and you've identified a way you want to try to abuse it. The most common passimian receiver abuse I've seen is with Azumarill giving passimian huge power, got absolutely owned by this. ![]() Well, it really depends on the mon, but unless it's like literally one of the worst mons in the game then every pokemon typically has "something" it can do that you can build around. You switch in Passimian turn one, take a KO with Cinderace or deal heavy damage and then pass on receiver. One way to improve activation is maybe to pair something less threatening with Cinderace, making your opponent target it and try and get a big hit off first, maybe via choice band. ![]() Adding Fini and a taunter could help, our your own TR mon to reverse it. So you need gameplans for the common meta threats, and a way to counter trick room/status. Issues are going to be consistent activation, dealing with speed control, burns, trick room, and damage from the heavy hitters in the meta that will wipe out your passimian. So your strat is more of a personal handicap then an exploitable gimmick. Passimian is only marginally stronger and much slower than Cinderace. Honestly its a bad gameplan because the gimmick youre exploiting is mediocre. You need a gameplan for how you would get around that. The way to run any strategy is to think about the meta and how a meta team would counter you. All RMT posts should go in /r/VGCRateMyTeam.
